Bait Bobber
[[_]]

The Bait Bobber is a Special Weapon originating from the Make a Good Mega Man Level series, based on Reel Man. It is fishing bobber-shaped explosive strung to the user’s buster, which can pull in enemies it would otherwise destroy to use as projectiles.

Make a Good Mega Man Level 3

The Bait Bobber appears as a Contest Weapon in Make a Good Mega Man Level 3. With it, Mega Man can launch an explosive bobber a short distance in front of him, where it will either fall to the ground (on dry land) or rise up (in water), then get reeled back with the line attached to his buster. Holding Up or Down will angle the initial launch, and if the bobber is still intact, pressing Fire after the launch will pull the bobber back sooner. Retrieving an intact bobber will restore the weapon energy used to launch it.

Bait Bobbers normally inflict damage by exploding on contact, but only against bosses and enemies capable of surviving the explosion. When used on an enemy that such an explosion would destroy, the enemy is instead "caught" and pulled in front of Mega Man, becoming an explosive projectile the size of that enemy’s hitbox. This projectile has a "layered" explosion, so an enemy struck with it will be damaged separately by each "layer". Up until it explodes, Mega Man can either hold it in front of himself like a shield, or launch and return it like the initial Bait Bobber.

Entries in the Marine Compendium can only be filled by catching the enemy or boss in question with a Bait Bobber. The first catch for each new entry will not become a projectile - it will instead flicker in place with the message "New Catch!" displayed above it, then disappear and leave behind a few bolts.

By default, Bait Bobber explosions will inflict 3 points of damage to enemies, with Electric enemies taking only 1 point of damage.

Damage Table

The first number is the damage from a Bait Bobber’s regular explosion; The second number is the damage from the explosion from a "caught" enemy projectile.
