Fire Totem is an enemy from Mega Man 9. It is a flame-tossing totem robot of varying size.

Fire Totem was first made available with the Megamix Engine, and subsequently the devkits for all games created with it. The first game to use it was Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, in the levels In the Flesh and Null and Void. It would return in Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level for the levels Combustible Quagmire, Ice Treatment Facility, Spicy Top Action, and Pandora's Parlor.

In Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, Fire Totems appeared in the entries House of Fun, Mediocre Oil Level, Red Mountain, Frenzy Reactor, Solar Inferno, Magmatic Panic, and Boost Man; as well as the NEO Pit of Pits sublevels "Burning Desire", "Forgotten Fortress MK.II - Entrance", "Hats Totems and Platforms", "Paved with Good Intentions", and "Slightly Hot".

Behavior

Fire Totem hides within its base until Mega Man is close enough to it, at which point it will emerge and toss up to four arcing fireballs at him. Each fireball has a different speed. If Mega Man gets far enough away from a Fire Totem after it finishes tossing fireballs, it will retreat back into itself. Only the head of a Fire Totem is vulnerable to attacks, with the body reflecting or ignoring all attacks.

Fire Totems have two creation code variables that change how it functions:

  • size - Affects how tall a Fire Totem's body is (by default, it is set to 2).
  • col - Affects the colour of a Fire Totem (0 = blue (default), 1 = green).
