"A big fire breathing dragon that that moves in a wave."
―Note in Changkey Dragon's code, Megamix Engine

Changkey Dragon is a midboss from Mega Man 9. It is a skeletal dragon robot that covers its bony body with giant Tackle Fires.

Changkey Dragon is included in the Megamix Engine, and was present as a devkit midboss in all games made with it. The first of these to use Changkey Dragon was Make a Good Mega Man Level: Episode Zero, where one appears as the midboss of Zieldak's room on Floor 6 of Null and Void. It would later appear in the Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level entries Short-Tempered Circuit and Frigid Inferno.

In Make a Good Mega Man Level 3, Changkey Dragon appears in the entries Grand Fire Palace and Mediocre Oil Level, and also has a brief appearance in the Weapon Tutorials.

Behavior

Changkey Dragon will move from one side of the screen to the other in a sine wave, spitting fire while doing so. The fire spat out by Changkey Dragon leaves behind both a lingering flame and a large Tackle Fire that flies in Mega Man's direction. The Black Hole Bomb, Water Shield, Tornado Blow, and Rain Flush are all able to destroy Changkey Dragon's body flames, preventing it from attacking until it goes offscreen.

Changkey Dragon has four creation code variables:

  • waveWidth - The width of Changkey Dragon's movement. Default is 28.
  • waveHeight - How low Changkey Dragon reaches. Default is 48.
  • waveSpeed - Changkey Dragon's horizontal speed. Default is 1.45.
  • shootTime - The interval between Changkey Dragon's fire shots. Default is 26.
