All of Mega Man's weapons in each tutorial are disabled, save for the Mega Buster and the central Special Weapon. However, said weapon lacks infinite energy, as to give an idea of how much ammo it normally uses up in a level. Fortunately, Eddie appears throughout each tutorial as a dispenser of large Weapon Energy pickups, ensuring Mega Man can never be stuck because he's run out of ammo for his current weapon. At the end of every tutorial is a teleporter locked by Security Crystals (as seen in the mini-stage preceding the King stages in Mega Man & Bass), which must be destroyed to activate it. | All of Mega Man's weapons in each tutorial are disabled, save for the Mega Buster and the central Special Weapon. | + | The Weapon Tutorials are located in the Victor Heights hotel Plaza, and work similarly to the ones from MaG48HMML. However, there is no reward for completing all the tutorials, nor is there an indicator as to which tutorials have been cleared or not. If the Parallel Weapon version of a tutorial's Special Weapon is enabled, the tutorial will change to be themed around the Robot Master that Parallel Weapon is derived from, up to and including the signs outside the entrance.

Its effectiveness on flying enemies is also touched on. Because Terra lacks a proper stage in Mega Man V, the Wily Star is used as the setting for the tutorial.

Particular mention made of its usage as a makeshift platform, the ability to push it and ride it over spikes, its floating properties in water, and the power to freeze Magma Beams solid. Another very subtly shown property is its ability to block off Wily 4 Lasers.

| + | Hosted by Anti-Eddie (and later Eddie), the Rush Coil and Rush Jet tutorial is based on Wily Castle 2 from Mega Man 3. Anti-Eddie spends the majority of the tutorial flaunting Magnet Beam's supposed superiority over the two, only to be repeatedly flabbergasted by their niches; such as the Rush Coil's utility on spikes, the Rush Jet's controllable speed and maneuverability, and the option to fire buster shots while either tool is in use. Towards the end are puzzles requiring the use of both utilities in creative ways, such as using Rush Coil to scale a wall while Tengu Wind is blowing against Mega Man. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Like in MaG48HMML, the tutorial will change slightly in Bass Mode to reflect the Treble Boost (which replaces both the Rush Coil and the Rush Jet). Unlike that game, however, the tutorial takes itself more seriously, with the weapon's strengths (e.g. free-form flight, triple shot) and weaknesses (e.g. ammo consumption, lack of immunity to spikes) openly discussed by Anti-Eddie. Towards the end, a sign from "Treble Boost Man" hints at the Treble Burst upgrade, which can be purchased from Chance Man at the Magic Card Casino, but doesn't describe what it does. | ||

| + | Hosted by an Ururuun (which drops the Rush Bike when defeated in Mega Man 8), the Rush Bike tutorial highlights the added speed given to Mega Man when riding the bike; as well as its secondary purpose as a pseudo shield, absorbing damage that would otherwise be inflicted on Mega Man's health at the cost of some ammo. The omission of this property whenever the Rush Bike has infinite ammunition is also demonstrated. | ||

Since the Magnet Beam completely lacks offensive capabilities, it completely lacks the usual security crystals at the end, with a final vertical climb acting as the tutorial's final challenge. A minor side area that tests the Magnet Beam's abilities in reaching it can also be found, with a few extra bolts as the reward.

Latest revision as of 21:38, 17 March 2025
Weapon Tutorials are areas that appear in Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level and Make a Good Mega Man Level 3. They are small mini-levels that are designed to teach the player about how to use each Special Weapon, as well as informing them about specific uses they may have in a level. Usually, they are designed to be impossible to pass without using the respective weapon to its fullest potential. Each tutorial resembles the original stage of the Robot Master the weapon comes from, and said Robot Master appears as an NPC throughout the tutorial to offer hints and advice about the weapon.
The Weapon Tutorials are completely optional, and finishing every one is not required for 100% completion.
Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level
The Weapon Tutorials are found in Sarge's Special Weapon Bootcamp onboard the SS Elroy. The only Special Weapon to lack a tutorial is Beat; Quote Lt. Sinc, "What would I even teach you? "Let the bird do all the work"?" Though completing every tutorial is optional, doing so will reward Mega Man with 100 bolts, on top of any he may have collected in the tutorials themselves.
Flame Mixer
| Flame Mixer Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Konro Man, the Flame Mixer tutorial emphasises its ability to fly upwards and pass through enemies, as well as its use as a shield against enemies and projectiles, and its oil-lighting capability.
Rain Flush
| Rain Flush Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Toad Man, this tutorial is very simple as it establishes the Rain Flush's screen clearing properties, including its multihit and shield-piercing qualities. Despite having a large roster of enemies, most of them are blocked off and pose no threat, existing only to be annihilated by the rain. Towards the end, the tutorial also demonstrates the weapon's ability to douse Napalm fires and freeze Quicksand, complete with a collection of large bolts beneath a pool of the latter that inevitably cannot be collected (as it's on the other side of a Destroyable Block).
Spark Shock
| Spark Shock Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Spark Man, the tutorial demonstrates the Spark Shock's immobilizing properties. The first half demonstrates how it can be used to keep shielded enemies open to damage for longer periods, while the second half emphasises how it can be used for evasive purposes. The enemies in the latter half are all immune to the Mega Buster, thus requiring the Spark Shock to freeze them in place. However, the weapon's ability to power on Junk Machines never comes into play, as no level in the game has a Junk Machine that requires the Spark Shock.
Search Snake
| Search Snake Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Snake Man, the Search Snake's ground tracking ability is the main attribute to be taught. In particular, its usefulness in finding platforms in dark areas, its inability to crawl on ceilings, and its immunity to spikes are all covered. The niche use of its brief arc in the air when fired is also touched on near the end.
Tengu Blade
| Tengu Blade Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Tengu Man, this tutorial is rather short but discusses all the capabilities of the Tengu Blade; its main role as a shield-piercing slash, the immunity to spikes and hazards the dash offers, and the rebounding effects of the air disc it creates.
Salt Water
| Salt Water Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Neptune, this tutorial demonstrates the Salt Water's splitting abilities, as well as the ability to aim it higher or lower, its shield-piercing attributes, and its noted ineffectiveness on fire-based enemies and hazards like Napalm.
Concrete Shot
| Concrete Shot Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Concrete Man, the tutorial largely documents the Concrete Shot's use as a platforming tool, and the many ways the concrete blocks it creates can be used to climb walls, cross long jumps and spikes, and slide through small gaps that normally can't be reached. Also demonstrated is the raw strength of the weapon (and how most minor enemies killed with it won't drop power ups), and its interactions with Wily 4 Lasers and Magma Beams.
Homing Sniper
| Homing Sniper Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Search Man, the tutorial demonstrates the Homing Sniper's homing ability, as well as its charge function and how it can lock onto multiple targets at once, or a single target multiple times. The drawbacks of the weapon near destructible platforms like Chill Man Blocks and Ballade Missiles are also showcased here. Notably, unlike every other Weapon Tutorial in the game, Mega Man is always forced to talk to Search Man to proceed, as he is often penned in by a Key Barrier and can only obtain the key by giving the correct response to Search Man.
Rush Coil & Rush Jet
| Rush Coil & Rush Jet Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Rush Coil Man and Rush Jet Man, those iconic Mega Man 3 Robot Masters that everyone knows and fondly remembers, the tutorial is cleanly divided into a Rush Coil section based on Hard Man's stage, and a Rush Jet section resembling Needle Man's stage (particularly its nighttime Doc Robot version). The former showcases the Rush Coil's immunity to spikes and use as a speedrunning tool in vertical scrolling areas, while the latter demonstrates Rush Jet's maneuverability and the ability to slow it down by holding the opposite directional button.
When played with the Proto Man Mode cheat, both the dialogue and the logos outside change to refer to the Proto Coil and the Proto Jet instead, though Rush Coil Man and Rush Jet Man's names and appearances remain unchanged. When played with the Bass Mode cheat, however, the tutorial more or less gives up on itself (thanks to the Treble Boost's superior utility), with both Robot Masters making jokey death quips and self-destructing when spoken to. A sign from "Treble Boost Man" is added at the end, which goes into detail about the weapon's attributes (such as how summoning Treble but not fusing with him will give Bass a buster shot that can go through walls).
Make a Good Mega Man Level 3
The Weapon Tutorials are located in the Victor Heights hotel Plaza, and work similarly to the ones from MaG48HMML.
Spark Chaser
| Spark Chaser Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Terra, the Spark Chaser tutorial demonstrates the weapon's homing ability and its potential to attack multiple targets, or even layer damage onto a single target. Its effectiveness on flying enemies is also touched on. Because Terra lacks a proper stage in Mega Man V, the Wily Star is used as the setting for the tutorial.
If the Treasure Tracker is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Treasure Man, with the aesthetic changed to match It Was Rated Arr.
Laser Trident
| Laser Trident Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Splash Woman, this tutorial focuses on the Laser Trident's shield piercing properties – in particular, the weapon's heightened effectiveness on Metalls, Joes, and Shield Attackers, and how it can hit targets otherwise blocked by shielded enemies.
If the Hero Guitar is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Guitar Man, with the aesthetic changed to match his namesake stage.
Water Shield
| Water Shield Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Pump Man, the tutorial demonstrates the Water Shield's defensive and offensive properties as a shield weapon, such as its ability to defend against enemies lurking in pits, and the spread of its spiral motion. Also shown off is the Water Shield's strength against fire-themed enemies and gimmicks, blocking Fire Waves and extinguishing Napalm.
If the Glitz Aegis is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Glitz Woman (and Aurora Man), with the aesthetic changed to match her namesake stage.
Tornado Blow
| Tornado Blow Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Tornado Man, this tutorial shows off the Tornado Blow's screenwide range, its strong damage output (particularly against fire enemies, floating enemies, and Smaplars), and the inability for enemies blown away by it to drop power ups. The weapon's utility functions are also highlighted, such as its interaction with Copter Platforms and the boost it gives to Mega Man's jumps while active.
If the Propeller Crown is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Royal Man, with the aesthetic changed to match The King's Lair.
Thunder Beam
| Thunder Beam Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Elec Man, the Thunder Beam tutorial is focused mostly on its raw power and the nature of its three-way spread of electric bolts. Special emphasis is placed on its ability to pass through (albeit not pierce) enemy shields, and its ability to destroy Octopus Batteries with one shot.
If the Thermal Blast is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Thermal Man, with the aesthetic changed to match Thermal Tundra.
Magnetic Shockwave
| Magnetic Shockwave Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Onslaught (in a nighttime city loosely based on his arena in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes), this tutorial demonstrates the vertical and horizontal range of the Magnetic Shockwave, how it can quickly clear away weak enemies and obstacles, its power against bulky enemies and minibosses, and its ineffectiveness against Metalls and other shielded enemies.
If the Last Judgement is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Judgement Man, with the aesthetic changed to match his namesake stage.
Ice Wall
| Ice Wall Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Cold Man, this tutorial is light on enemies and is primarily focused on the Ice Wall's use as a utility rather than as a weapon. Particular mention made of its usage as a makeshift platform, the ability to push it and ride it over spikes, its floating properties in water, and the power to freeze Magma Beams solid. Another very subtly shown property is its ability to block off Wily 4 Lasers.
If the Mafia Goon is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Mafia Man, with the aesthetic changed to match Mafia Man's Gambling Palace.
Break Dash
| Break Dash Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Pluto, the Break Dash tutorial demonstrates how the weapon's charging dash can be used against enemies both offensively and evasively, with creative use of its invulnerability period being encouraged to sneak past dangerous obstacles. Its effectiveness on grounded enemies (particularly Spines and similar floor-crawling enemies) is highlighted, as is the ability to push X Blocks and knock certain enemies backwards.
If the Castle Rush is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Rook Man (plus one Pawnon), with the aesthetic changed to match Checkmate.
Rush Coil & Rush Jet
| Rush Coil & Rush Jet Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by Anti-Eddie (and later Eddie), the Rush Coil and Rush Jet tutorial is based on Wily Castle 2 from Mega Man 3.
Like in MaG48HMML, the tutorial will change slightly in Bass Mode to reflect the Treble Boost (which replaces both the Rush Coil and the Rush Jet).
Rush Bike
| Rush Bike Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by an Ururuun (which drops the Rush Bike when defeated in Mega Man 8), the Rush Bike tutorial highlights the added speed given to Mega Man when riding the bike; as well as its secondary purpose as a pseudo shield, absorbing damage that would otherwise be inflicted on Mega Man's health at the cost of some ammo. The omission of this property whenever the Rush Bike has infinite ammunition is also demonstrated.
Magnet Beam
| Magnet Beam Tutorial | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||
Hosted by the Yellow Devil and set within the first Wily stage of Mega Man, the Magnet Beam tutorial focuses on how the platforms made with the tool can be used to cross long horizontal distances, climb up vertical areas, evade enemies, and even access otherwise unreachable slide passageways.
If the Divine Beam is active, the tutorial is instead hosted by Arcane Man (and not Aether Man, on whom the Divine Beam is based), with the aesthetic changed to match ArcaneMan -CHAOS TOWER- (CERN HQ Remains).
Alter Playground
The Alter Playground is a side area attached to the Weapon Tutorials, and is devoted to the Contest Weapon Data. The area is initially locked off, but will become accessible after obtaining the Contest Weapons; the corridor where they are found even has a teleporter leading directly to the Alter Playground. Hosted by Dr. Lalinde and a cadre of Weapons Archive robots, the Alter Playground is less of a dedicated tutorial for the weapons, and more of a free range shooting gallery, with every Contest Weapon able to be used anywhere and experimentation with each weapon strongly encouraged.
The playground has a main hub area loosely based on Identity Crisis's final sequences, which contains floating targets similar to those found in Dr. Light's Lab in the original Make a Good Mega Man Level. Branching out from this are several side areas themed after the stages each Contest Weapon's Robot Master hails from, which are designed to demonstrate and take advantage of each weapon's strengths and weaknesses. A Weapons Archive robot at the entrance to each side area will give a brief overview of the weapon's controls and functionality when spoken to, but is otherwise absent from the areas themselves.
Like the other Weapon Tutorials, there is no reward for completing every side area in the Alter Playground, and it is completely optional. However, completing a path will award Mega Man with a key, while taking him to a room filled with items like bolts and plushie capsules behind Key Barriers. The more keys are collected and barriers unlocked, the more items Mega Man can collect.
Hanging at the bottom of the Alter Playground's hub is a Toad Dummy, which can be beat up on with a variety of weapons. When hit enough times, it will fall to the ground; by talking to it afterwards, several other Toad Dummies will become hidden in each of the main fifteen tiers in the game, and Mega Man is tasked with finding and destroying them all. By destroying every Toad Dummy and then talking to the one in the Alter Playground afterwards, the Tron Bonne costume will be unlocked in Maker Man's shop; the sidequest also needs to be completed as part of obtaining the XXI - The World achievement.
Notes
- Barring a select few entry levels, MaG48HMML's Weapon Tutorials are the only place in the game where Robot Master NPCs can be encountered, as every other NPC on the SS Elroy is instead a minor enemy (or in one case, a fortress boss cosplaying as a Robot Master).
- MaG48HMML's Rush Coil & Rush Jet tutorial was originally created for MaGMML3, but was ported over to the former game instead. The tutorial's references to the Magnet Beam are an artifact of its original purpose.
